Malcolm X

Malcolm X was only thirty nine years old when he was killed, but he had been a spokesman for African-American everywhere in the United States. He made black people aware of two important strengths: self-love and self-reliance.

Malcolm's life was never an easy one. His father died when he was a young boy, and his mother became ill soon after. It wasn't long before Malcolm was getting into trouble. As a young teenager, he was placed in a detention home. He was in prison by the time he was twenty years old.

This story of the life of Malcolm X tells how he changed from being a confused and unhappy young man - a criminal - to being a respected leader in the worldwide struggle to achieve equality for all peoples of colour.

"Vividly outlines the event, both tragic and rewarding, which influenced the life and thought of Malcolm X and clearly evinces his significance as a black leader." ALA Booklist
