Start-Up Religion - Visiting A Synagogue

An ideal introduction for young children to what it means to belong to a religion, and the part it plays in people's lives.

"Start-up Religion" is a series of first RE books for pupils at Key Stage One, developed specifically to support units in the RE Schemes of Work. This title, now in big book format, is a perfect introduction to the Jewish Religion for young children, who are encouraged to 'discover' Religion on the page. "Visiting a Synagogue" shows that, for Jewish people, a synagogue is a place for learning, socialising and worship. It focuses, in particular, on the Torah scrolls, which children would see on a visit to a synagogue. The ways in which the scrolls are treated are evidence of how precious the Torah is to Jewish people. The book explains that the Torah contains stories and laws, and it invites children to think how some examples of the laws could be relevant in their own lives. The book helps children to prepare for a synagogue visit and to understand what they see there.

Titles in the series:

* Belonging
* Celebrating Harvest

* Visiting a Church
* Visiting a Mandir
